This spring, Bryan W. Crews, Esq., succesfully negotiated a settlement on behlaf of Luis and Aino Colon for a sum of $850,000. Mr. & Mrs. Colon’s case against Gaynor Taylor, Flash Oil Co. of Arkansas, et al., came to a close when Mr. Crews was able to force the defendants to accept culpability and provide restitution for a semi-truck accident wherein the defendant’s 18 wheeler slammed into the back of Mr. Colon’s car. The accident required a three level cervical fusion the spine and caused Mr. Colon to miss over a half year’s worth of work.

On May 11, 2011, Crews & Pesquera, PA, led in trial by Managing Partner Bryan W. Crews, attained a jury verdict of $109,099 for client Jose Burgos. Mr. Burgos, a retired, successful entrepreneur, was injured in Feb. 2007 while at Manny’s Chophouse. There to make a Valentine’s Day for him and his wife of over 50 years, Delia, Mr. Burgos slip and fell on a mat that was placed over a recently mopped floor. He suffered injuries that included a rotator cuff tear that required surgery. Before trial, the defense only offered $15,000 for Mr. Burgos’ past and future medical bills and his pain and suffering. The jury believed Mr. Burgos was intitled to more and awarded him a jury verdict of $109,00! Mr. Crews also beat the original judgment offer of $69,000 thereby intitling the law firm of Crews & Pesquera, P.A. to additional costs and fees. This will allow Mr. Crews to pass along even more funds to Mr. Burgos. Though a proud and strong man, Mr. Burgos tearfully thanked Mr. Crews for helping him and his family.

Ricardo R. Pesquera, who was instrumental as a community advocate in establishing the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Orlando that exists today, was awarded the Don Quijote Lifetime Achievement Award by the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Olrando for his professional excellence and involvement with the Hispanic community in Central Florida.

Chamber and HBIF officials said Pesquera’s nomination surfaced as a winner because he has a long history of seeking unity and giving of his time to support community organizations — most notably his establishment in the early 1990s of a Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce that merged with a Latin Chamber of Commerce to create the united Hispanic Chamber that honored him. He has also volunteered with the Hispanic Bar Association of Central Florida, of which he was President in the year 2000.

At the Awards event, Ricardo & Janet Pesquera had the opportunity to share this honor with over 900 people that attended this black-tie event, including elected officials and distinguished members of the Hispanic community.

In regard to his award Mr. Pesquera boldly stated, “Though some see an award like this as the pinnacle achievement of a lifetime spent advocating on behalf of our community, I view the Don Quijote Lifetime Achievement Award as an inspiration to never stop fighting for the issues that affect all of our families.”
